CLARK FREEPORT –– As many as 1,123 companies administered by state-owned Clark Development Corp. now employ 135,114 workers, according to the latest figures released on Wednesday.

Clark hosts industry leaders like Texas Instruments, Samsung, Posco E&C, Mercedes Benz, SM Prime Holdings, and Yokohama Tires, whose investments amount to US$4.85 billion, the CDC said.

The employment figure is three times bigger than the 30,000 workers hired by the United States government when it operated the former Clark Air Base until 1991.

The Clark International Airport serves 246 international flights weekly to 12 destinations and 488 flights to 28 domestic destinations.

By yearend, the airport would have served about 4.5 million passengers. Its new passenger terminal, designed to accommodate eight million passengers annually, will be opened in July 2010. /lzb
