Village guard slain, 2 others hurt in Eastern Samar town shooting

TACLOBAN CITY –– A village watchman was killed while a village councilor and another village watchman were hurt in a shooting incident in Oras town, Eastern Samar province on Tuesday night.

Killed was Arnulfo Opon, 56, a tanod of Barangay Sta. Monica, after two armed men shot him and his companions at past 8:30 p.m.

Wounded were Noel Balaca and Carlo Nebrida, both 53, village councilor and village watchman of the same barangay.

Initial police investigation showed that the three were having a drinking spree at the house of Balaca when the two men clad in hooded black jackets appeared and shot them several times.

Opon suffered multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.

Balaca and Nebrida, who were wounded, were brought to a hospital for treatment.

The police recovered 11 empty shells of an M16 rifle and 15 empty shells of an M14 rifle from the crime scene.
