LEGAZPI CITY –– Army troops overran an alleged camp of the New People’s Army, following an encounter in Del Gallego town in Camarines Sur province on Tuesday.

Major Ricky Aguilar, public affairs chief of the Philippine Army’s First Infantry Division, said a platoon of Scout Rangers had a 30-minute firefight with about 20 suspected NPA rebels on the outskirts of Del Gallego near the boundaries of Ragay and Lupi towns around 2 p.m.

The rebels, led by a certain Ka Rudy of Guerrilla Front Larangan 2 operating in the province, fled after sensing that the Army rangers overpowered them.

The soldiers found a rebel camp and recovered seven Molotov bombs, two boxes of government arsenal of 5.56-mm sniper bullets, empty M16 magazines, an Epson projector, a transistor radio, four cell phones, three rolls of electric wires, a generator set, two gallons of gasoline, two sacks of rice, food, other supplies, and documents. /lzb
