MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Signal Number 1 was hoisted Tuesday afternoon over Eastern Samar and the eastern portion of Northern Samar due to Tropical Depression “Ramon.”
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weather disturbance may intensify into a tropical storm in the next 48 hours.
According to the state weather bureau, Ramon was spotted 670 kilometers east of Borongan City in Eastern Samar around 4 p.m. and packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness of 70 km/h.
Pagasa said light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may also be experienced over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar on Wednesday while light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be expected over Romblon, Marinduque, and Southern Quezon.
The northeast monsoon, meanwhile, will affect northern and central Luzon, Pagasa added.
The state weather bureau likewise raised a gale warning over Batanes; Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands; Ilocos Norte; Ilocos Sur; Isabela; Aurora; Camarines provinces; Catanduanes: eastern coast of Albay; eastern coast of Quezon, including Polilio Islands; and Samar provinces.
