Senate ratifies bicam report on deferral of 2020 barangay, SK polls
MANILA, Philippines — Senate ratified Monday the bicameral conference committee report on the postponement of the 2020 Barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan elections.
In a unanimous vote, the Senate ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the disagreeing provisions of Senate Bill No. 1043 and House Bill No. 4933.
Senate Bill No. 1043 seeks to instead hold the village and youth council elections on December 5, 2022.
After ratification by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, the bill will be transmitted to the Office of the President for the signature of President Rodrigo Duterte.
If enacted into law, two elections will be held in 2022 – the presidential elections in May and the village and youth council elections in December.
In his State of the Nation Address in July, Duterte renewed his call for Congress to postpone next year’s Barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan polls.
