MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Navy is increasing its deployments to Mindanao by sending two of its ships there.
Presidential yacht Ang Pangulo (ACS25) and BRP Emilio Jacinto (PS35) were sent off in a ceremony at South Harbor in Manila on Monday.
Ang Pangulo will be deployed to Davao City-based Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao to support the Davao operational base of the Presidential Security Group.
The Emilio Jacinto will be deployed to Naval Forces Western Mindanao in Zamboanga City to boost the Philippine Navy presence there.
“BRP Emilio Jacinto will be joining our fleet assets in Western Mindanao after months of undergoing repair. She shall be performing a very important mission particularly in safeguarding our islands and preventing intrusions to our boundaries,” said Navy chief Vice Adm. Robert Empedrad.
“In the same manner, BRP Ang Pangulo or ACS25 shall be sent to perform a very special role in safeguarding the second residence of our president in Davao,” he added.
The Navy said the deployment of these vessels is an important demonstration of its commitment to the effective conduct of various operations in the areas of maritime patrol and internal security.
The ships will also augment the ongoing relief efforts in the aftermath of a series of earthquakes in Mindanao.
