CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –– Two weeks before the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games begin, policemen in Central Luzon said they are prepared for any security threats from the New People’s Army and other terrorist groups, the top cop in the region announced here on Monday.
“We are ready for any disruptions,” Brig. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, regional police director, told reporters here.
But he said the intelligence community had not received any information pertaining to security threats.
“We are continuously monitoring the security situation,” Sermonia added.
More than 6,000 police personnel and 3,000 soldiers would secure the 36 games that would be played in 24 venues in Central Luzon for the biennial games, according to Col. Rhoderick Armamento, deputy regional director for operations.
The Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee said it was ready for the 11-nation sports fest that would open on Nov. 30 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The closing ceremony on Dec. 11 will be held at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.
Polo is set to start on Nov. 22 and the men’s football on Nov. 25./lzb
