CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela, Philippines — Thousands of people lined up on the streets to honor Rep. Rodolfo Albano Jr. whose remains arrived here at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Cauayan Airport.
The lawmaker, who died on Nov. 5 from a heart ailment, was later transported from Cauayan to Ilagan City.
Tarpaulin signs with the messages “We will miss you, Manong Rudy” and “Thank you for the love and support, Tata Rudy” were displayed around the tarmac.
Funeral arrangements would be announced soon, family members said.
The 85-year-old political veteran was the son of Delfin Albano who served as Isabela House representative from 1957 to 1965. He was the father of incumbent Gov. Rodolfo Albano III; 1st District Rep. Antonio “Tonypet” Albano; daughter Mila Albano-Mamauag, a former Cabagan town mayor; Marisol Albano-Fernandez; Manny Albano; and Dr. Malou Albano-Africa.
Lakay Rudy, as he is called, first served as vice governor from 1960 to 1964. He also served as assemblyman from 1969 to 1973 and then Isabela representative of Isabela from 1978 to -1986.
After the 1986 snap elections, Albano Jr. served for three terms as House representative from 1987 to 1998, 2001 to 2004 and 2010-013.
He also served as a trial court judge in Davao City and was a mayor of Cabagan town in Isabela.
After leaving Congress, Albano Jr. was appointed the chair of the Energy Regulatory Commission.
