Jail officer killed, another wounded in Bacolod ambush
MANILA, Philippines — A jail officer died while another was wounded after they were ambushed by unidentified gunmen who opened fire at their vehicle in Bacolod City shortly before midnight on Friday.
Jail Officer 1 Jayvee Jason Vargas, 28, was killed during the attack while Gian Philip Yoro, 25, was injured, the Bacolod City Police Office said.
Vargas and Yoro–together with Femmy Taño, 23, and Philip Yoro, 27–were aboard a pick-up truck when waylaid in Barangay Pahanocoy at around 11:50 p.m.
Jayvee died on the spot while Gian sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The gunmen fled and police were conducting a hot pursuit operation.
