The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday said they had requested for at least seven schools in Malate, Manila, to suspend their classes for a week to avoid congestion once the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) kick in full swing this November.
The MMDA said these schools were either too close to the proposed SEA Games venues in Manila (Rizal Stadium, Manila Hotel, Manila Polo Club) and Pasay (Cuneta Astrodome, World Trade Center, SM Mall of Asia, Philippine International Convention Center), or the routes going to these schools overlap with the planned routes for the athletes joining the biennial sports games.
However, they would only release the list of schools once they have been approved, she said. The upcoming SEA Games, which the Philippines is hosting, will be held on Nov. 30 to Dec. 6 in both Manila and Tarlac province.—KRIXIA SUBINGSUBING
