Chinese tagged in crimes vs other Chinese nabbed in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested a Chinese national tagged as head of a crime gang preying on other Chinese nationals.

Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested Sun Kai, who allegedly heads a crime gang named after him, in an entrapment operation by the CIDG’s Manila field unit in Malate, a tourist district in Manila, past 1 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

Sun was arrested after receiving P200,000 in cash from Chinese nationals who were threatened with kidnapping by Sun if they didn’t pay up.

The CIDG said the arrest came following complaints from two Chinese nationals who said Sun had threatened to kidnap them if they didn’t pay P200,000.

Col. Ronald Hipolito, head of the CIDG National Capital Region, said Sun’s group was known for preying on Chinese nationals and involvement in swindling and other crimes in the Philippines and China.

A case of robbery-extortion would be filed against Sun./TSB
