MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government will extend P24 million in financial assistance to Davao del Sur and North Cotabato, two of several provinces afflicted by powerful earthquakes in Mindanao in October.
The Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRC) has approved the donation during a meeting at Makati City Hall. Makati Mayor Abby Binay has asked the council to expedite the financial aid to the two provinces.
The local government announced its initiative to help Mindanao quake victims on Friday.
“The City of Makati empathizes with the victims of the recent earthquakes, and we would like to help them get back on their feet as soon as possible. Aside from financial aid, we will also share whatever resources we can spare,” Binay said.
Binay also said the local government will donate school supplies to students after hundreds of schools were damaged by the tremor.
Psycho-social support teams will also be deployed to offer stress debriefing to earthquake victims, Binay added. /kga
