PALAYAN CITY –– Fifty-three alleged members and supporters of the communist-led New People’s Army surrendered to government authorities in Carranglan town, the military said on Friday.
The Army’s 84th Infantry Battalion (IB) under its 7th Infantry Division facilitated the surrender on Wednesday, according to Lt. Col. Honorato Pascual Jr., the battalion’s commanding officer, the public affairs office said.
“They are tired of fighting for a useless and pointless cause,” Pascual said.
Pascual said the mass surrender was a result of the joint efforts of the 84th IB, the 7th Civil-Military Operations Battalion, the Barangay Peace and Order Council and Barangay Task Force. Armand Galang/lzb
