Coast Guard rescues capsized boat off Sibonga, Cebu

CEBU CITY –– The Philippine Coast Guard in Central Visayas (PCG-7) is responding to a distress call from a fast craft that capsized three to five nautical miles off Sibonga town, south Cebu.

PCG-7 spokesperson Michael John Encina said the fast craft vessel left Loon town in Bohol en route to Sibonga, Cebu around 9 a.m. when it encountered “big waves that caused the ship to take in water.”

The fast craft is carrying 53 passengers and seven crew members.

Coast Guard ship (MRRV 4406) BRP Suluan is already on the way to the area.

A team of Coast Guard Medical personnel was deployed at the Argao Port to provide the necessary assistance. /lzb
