Businessman killed, believed robbed by ‘former friend’

MANILA, Philippines—The Manila police is on the hunt for a San Andres Bukid, Manila resident, suspected to have shot and robbed a friend on Tuesday evening.

Jake Alvarez, 35, was seen fleeing on neighbors’ rooftops with a handgun minutes after Crisostomo Busano, 40, a businessman living on Radium Street, was shot dead on his motorcycle.

At around 9 p.m., bystanders in Brgy. 766, Zone 84  heard multiple gunshot and found Busano slumped and bloodied on the speed0meter of his motorcycle on Onyx Street.

Attempts to save his life by rushing him to the hospital proved futile, reported case investigator Police Officer 3 Alonzo Layugan of the Manila Police District Homicide section.

A resident of Onyx Street, Carolina Sayaw, 55, told police that moments after the shooting, she spotted Alvarez running up to the third floor of their building with a gun and escaping through the neighboring houses’ roofs.

Meanwhile, Busanos’ wife Julieta, 40, said that her husband was carrying an estimated P10,000 in cash when killed.

Residents told police Alvarez was a “former friend” of Busanos.

Four empty .45-caliber shells were  recovered from the crime scene.
