MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Pasay City has signed an ordinance that prohibits people from going shirtless in public.

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano signed Ordinance 6004 on Tuesday which states that “no person/individual of legal age in the City of Pasay shall expose himself (walk, run, stand, jog or the like) outside his/her private residence half-naked.”

The city government hopes to promote “decency and high moral outlook” among Pasayeños by introducing the ordinance, it said in a statement.

Violators face a fine of P2,000 up to P4,000 or 12 hours to 24 hours of community service.

The city government ordered the Pasay police station commander to monitor violators.
