SAN PEDRO CITY –– A woman was arrested after she reportedly hacked to death her child in Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas.
Aiza Lorcha, 30, was charged with parricide for the death of her year-old son.
Barangay chief Prince Kenneth Palma of Mataas na Kahoy said Lorcha could be suffering from postpartum depression, common among new mothers, as the police saw no apparent reason that may have triggered her action.
A medical expert had still to validate the mother’s condition, however.
In a phone interview on Wednesday, Palma said Lorcha and her son were home alone in Barangay 2A when the incident happened around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
“An uncle (of Lorcha) was with them earlier but he left around 3 p.m. to pick up a child from school. The uncle said the baby was crying when he left, so Lorcha took and carried him,” Palma said.
When the uncle returned, Lorcha rushed to him and told him she had killed her child, Palma said.
The child was brought to the Metro San Jose Medical Center but died due to three hack wounds from a bolo. Lorcha was then turned over to the police station.
The child’s father, a sales promodiser, was at work in Lipa City at the time. Maricar Cinco /lzb
