Lawyer optimistic over Maguindanao massacre case

MANILA, OA private lawyer for the families of 38 out of the 58 victims of the 2009 Maguindanao massacre remains optimistic that the case against 198 individuals, including members of the Ampatuan clan, will lead to the suspects’ conviction this year despite procedural maneuvers by the defense meant to delay the case further.

“We are hopeful that a promulgation would be possible in November in time for the case’s 10th year,” said counsel Nena Santos.

“Conviction may not be possible for all but we are hoping that at least the principal accused [would be convicted],” she said. —Mariejo S. Amora
