MANILA, Philippines — Obstruction of traffic is the top violation of traffic rules for bus drivers in Metro Manila for the first 10 months of 2019, data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) showed Tuesday.
From Jan. 1 to Oct. 31, MMDA recorded 4,826 incidents of obstructing the road followed by yellow lane violations with 3,741 incidents.
MMDA also recorded 2,301 incidents of disregarding traffic signs, 1,369 incidents of violating loading and unloading and 1,115 incidents of improper opening of doors.
Earlier, the MMDA said it will go after erring bus drivers with more than 100 traffic violations.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said it would study the MMDA’s data to act on the license of erring bus drivers.
“We are coordinating with MMDA, through [MMDA General Manager Jojo] Garcia, para yung huli din nila, [so that those who are caught will be included in the process of suspension.] mai-include na rin namin sa aming (for the inclusion in the) process of suspension,” LTO Law Enforcement Service Deputy Director Roberto Valera said during a press conference.
Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group Traffic Enforcement Unit Chief Lt. Col. Emmanuel Tabuena said their agency will help LTO in apprehending suspended drivers.
