MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) has created a special investigation task group (SITG) to probe the ambush-slay in Malate, Manila of an officer of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, acting director of the National Capital Region Police Office, said Tuesday that the SITG was created upon his order.
“They have now created a SITG at ongoing po ‘yung investigation. May nakatutok na po na tao doon (They have now created an SITG and the investigation is ongoing. There are people closely monitoring the case),” he said in a press briefing at Kamuning Police Station in Quezon City.
“I think they have also contacted the family. As of now, I am not sure if they already have a person of interest,” he added.
Helen Dacanay was declared dead on arrival at a hospital after the ambush. She came from work with a companion onboard a vehicle when two motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire. Her companion was unharmed.
Police have yet to identify the perpetrators as of posting time.
