Fire guts ex-mayor’s ancestral house in Bubong, Lanao del Sur

ILIGAN CITY –– Fire razed the two-story ancestral house of former mayor Haji Ali Munder of Bubong, Lanao del Sur at 3:46 p.m. on Monday.

The house, which was made of concrete okir cement, with its second-floor flooring made of hard rogan wood. burned down in Barangay Muntian in Bubong town barely an hour after a tornado hit Marawi City.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Zailon Sarip, fire marshall of Ditsaan Ramain town, said the fire started from one of the rooms on the second floor, rapidly spread to the attic and rooftop, and gobbled up the whole house.

Sarip said the house was built in 1975 or 44 years ago, based on the account of the Munder family.

Fire trucks from the provincial government and the Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur local government tried to contain the fire that raged for more than two hours.

Seven families, all relatives of Munder living in the house, were displaced and sought refuge in their nearby relatives.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) declared the fire out at 5:03 pm. No one was hurt, but the family’s antique collection was burned down.

The BFP placed the damage at P400,000. /lzb
