MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) management announced that passengers under 18 years of age can ride for free during the morning and afternoon/evening rush hours on Wednesday, November 6 in observance of the 27th National Children’s Month.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the Light Rail Transit Authority said that passengers below 18 years old can ride for free from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The “No School ID, No Free Ride” rule will be strictly implemented, the LRTA said, except in cases where the passengers is obviously below 18 years old upon the judgment of the stations personnel.

It added that children who have availed the free ride will be allowed to exit through service gates or any assigned automatic gates from 9:01 a.m. to 9:35 a.m. and 7:01 to 7:35 p.m.

‘Exiting beyond these time limits will be subject the passenger to a penalty as a lost ticket upon exit,” the LRTA said in its implementing guidelines.

Children will still have to undergo the usual frisking and baggage inspection at the LRT-2 stations, as well as adhere to all rules and regulations on passenger safety and security.

The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will also give free rides to minors on Wednesday. /gsg
