CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental – Two persons were killed when a van rammed into a public utility vehicle at Zone 2, Barangay Aplaya in Jasaan town, Misamis Oriental, Monday, Nov. 4, police said.
Multicab passenger Milijun Masion and a still unidentified individual were killed when a delivery van heading toward the eastern part of Misamis Oriental suddenly veered in the opposite direction and bumped into the multicab they were riding, said Maj. Dennis de los Santos, chief of Jasaan town police.
Police were still trying to find out the identity of the second fatality.
The van also hit a motorcycle driven by Adan Pasol, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Lagonglong town. The motorcycle had been tailing the multicab.
“The multicab was at full seating capacity,” De los Santos said.
Aside from the two passengers who died, nine other passengers were hurt, including one who sustained serious injuries, though the rest survived unscathed.
“Some of the passengers who were unharmed just flagged down passing public utility vehicles and continued on with their business as if nothing happened,” De los Santos said.
“We could not say that the van’s driver was trying to overtake another motorist as there was no vehicle ahead of him. It was probable that he (Elcarte) fell asleep for a few seconds causing the van to swerve in the opposite direction and rammed into the multicab,” he said.
Delos Santos said Elcarte would be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, damage to property and multiple physical injuries.
