2 dead in Quezon road accidents
LUCENA CITY – A five-year-old pedestrian and a motorcycle rider died in two separate road accidents in Gumaca and Sariaya towns in Quezon province on Sunday, police said Monday.
Report from Quezon police said Junjake Brizo, 5, resident of Barangay (village) Villa Arcaya in Gumaca town, was accidentally hit by a Manila-bound passenger bus while crossing the Maharlika Highway in the said village around 6:30 a.m.
The boy sustained grave injuries and died while being taken to Gumaca District Hospital at the town center.
The bus driver, Demetrio Angeles, voluntarily surrendered at the Plaridel police station in the nearby town after the incident.
In Sariaya, motorcyclist John Paul Grimaldo, 20, while traversing the eco-tourism road, occupied the opposite lane and subsequently collided head-on into an oncoming Manila-bound passenger bus in Barangay Guis-Guis around 7 p.m.
The victim, who sustained serious injuries, also died while being taken to Greg Hospital at the town center.
