MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) are set to come out with a single records management system for all prisons and jail detainees.
Undersecretary Markk Perete, DOJ spokesperson, said the single carpeta or record system for detainees is part of the National Justice Information System which the two agencies will come out with later this month.
Perete said recent congressional hearings uncovered the problem of records maintenance by the Bureau of Jail Management (BJMP) and Penology and by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
Records do not match
“Our problem is the carpetas do not match because BJMP has its own record while BuCor has its own, and sometimes, the BuCor rejects records from BJMP. So that’s one inefficiency in the system that we are trying to correct with what we call the single carpeta system,” he told reporters.
The BJMP is under the DILG while the BuCor is under the DOJ.
