MANILA, Philippines — Authorities at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) apprehended on Friday morning nine suspects who allegedly tried to abduct a Chinese passenger.

Naia airport policemen rushed to the scene after seeing the victim, later identified as Zhou Zeng Lin, being dragged by a group of Chinese into a waiting van at the arrival area of Naia Terminal 3 around 9 a.m.

Arrested were eight Chinese suspects identified as Cheng Yugi, Huang Yuhang, Xiang Yao, Zhiao Xin, Liu Huan, Pan Changlin, Nie Shaolin and Gan Siguo; and Filipino van driver Jesus Solinap.

Police said the suspects were employees of Great Empire Gaming and Amusement Corp., a Philippine offshore gaming operation company based in Libis, Quezon City.

The suspects denied trying to abduct Zheng and claimed they were just inviting him to come with them because he owed them a big amount of money, the Airport Police Department said. —Jerome Aning
