DSWD Bicol sends truckloads of aid to quake-stricken Mindanao

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines — Several truckloads of relief materials were shipped from the Bicol region on Saturday afternoon to areas in Mindanao that were hit by a series of earthquakes, an official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Bicol said.

According to Jesseshan Marbella-Aycocho, DSWD spokesperson, the relief augmentation, which is expected to arrive on Tuesday, will be turned over to DSWD in Kidapawan City in Cotabato province.

Relief materials from Bicol included 20,000 blankets, 20,000 pieces of malong, 300 tents and 200 rolls of laminated sacks good for 2,000 households.

Cotabato and other parts of Mindanao were struck by earthquakes, the strongest of which was a magnitude 6.6, tremor in the last remaining days of October.

As of Saturday, authorities have recorded 17 dead and 327 injured due to the earthquakes.
