MANILA, Philippines – A group of young men serenaded some visitors at the Manila South Cemetery on All Saints’ Day to raise funds for musical instruments to be used at their church in Rizal.
The group, composed of more than 10 young men, are mostly vocalists and instrumentalists of the worship team at a pentecostal church. They carried guitars as they sing worship songs to cemetery-goers.
Most of the instruments in their church are currently worn out, said Kyla Zata, an 18-year-old vocalist at the church’s music ministry.
“We raise funds to buy instruments for the church, so we can praise God by playing worship songs,” he said in an interview with INQUIRER.net.
He said they also visited other cemeteries on All Saints’ Day to preach about the Bible.
“We call this cemetery evangelism,” he said.
The donations are voluntary, said Joshua Cruz, a 16-year-old member of the group.
Since almost all of the musical instruments are not functioning well anymore, Zata said they would only prioritize those that immediately need replacement once they raise enough funds.
