Two Skyway officers wounded in Parañaque shooting

MANILA, Philippines —  Two officers of Skyway in Parañaque City were hurt when a still unidentified gunman shot them Thursday night.

Rexie Talingdan, a Skyway traffic enforcer, and Ronie Delos Santos, a security officer, were wounded during a shooting incident at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday, according to a report from the Parañaque City police.

Investigation showed that Talingdan tried to flag down a motorist aboard a motorcycle that is not allowed to ply the expressway. He tried to ask the rider to stop but the man refused, resulting in a chase.

Police said that while chasing the man, the traffic officer then saw Delos Santos at the merging road of Skyway going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and sought the latter’s assistance. The two officers subsequently chased the rider until they cornered him.

Police said the two were about to arrest the man when he suddenly pulled a gun and fired at them.

The suspect, whose motorcycle does not have a plate number, then escaped via the Bicutan Skyway exit. The victims, meanwhile, were rushed at the Parañaque Doctors Hospital.

Investigators recovered from the crime scene two spent shells of a caliber 9mm pistol. These will be subjected to forensics, police said. /kga
