Another quake jolts Mindanao anew

DAVAO CITY — A powerful magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Southern Mindanao on Friday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology posted in a bulletin that the earthquake’s epicenter is at 334 kilometers southeast of the town of Sarangani in Davao Occidental.

The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at 10:34 a.m., Phivolcs said.

It is unclear if the recent earthquake is part of the series of strong earthquakes that originated in Tulunan, North Cotabato.

No damages were expected but aftershocks are possible, the government agency said.

No tsunami warning or alert were also issued as of posting./lzb
