Over 60,000 flock to Manila South Cemetery on All Saints’ Day morning

MANILA, Philippines — Over 60,000 visitors flocked to the Manila South Cemetery on the morning of All Saints’ Day.

Based on information from the Manila Police District’s Advance Command Post, a total of 65,183 have visited the cemetery as of 11 a.m. Friday.

A total of 258 bladed /pointed and flammable items, which are prohibited in the cemetery grounds, were confiscated by security personnel.

Lt. Col. Ferdinand Belantres, supervisor of the command post and emergency preparedness and response team, said that around 250,000 visitors are expected at the public cemetery.

He said the situation at the cemetery has been generally peaceful, so far.

A total of 177 police officers, including six commissioned officials, are deployed at the cemetery grounds to ensure the safety and security of visitors.

They are augmented by 241 volunteers from non-government organizations and civic groups. /gsg
