Groundbreaking for new market set November

The city government of Parañaque is set to break ground this month for the construction of the Baclaran Gateway and People’s Market.

The new market will serve as a permanent home for the more than 2,000 vendors around Baclaran Church, especially those along Roxas Boulevard.

Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the construction of the P150-million market will be fully funded by the city government after it turned down a proposal by a construction firm.

The building will be on a 1-hectare land on the other side of Roxas Boulevard across the church. Also being planned are an overpass for pedestrians and a parking area and loading-unloading zone.

Olivarez said the market is expected to be in full operation by the last quarter of 2020.

“All of our vendors in the people’s market will be permanent and legal since they will pay their respective business permits annually,” he said.
