MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday proclaimed Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles as the duly elected representative of the First District of South Cotabato after she got 194,929 votes in the May 2019 polls.
The Comelec previously suspended the congressional elections in the district in accordance with the law reapportioning the First District of South Cotabato and creating a separate legislative district for General Santos City.
The Supreme Court however, granted Nograles’ petition against the Comelec’s resolution to reset the election.
The poll body decided not to appeal the Supreme Court decision. —Tina G. Santos
