LGUs told to be ‘creative’ in handling ‘Undas’ trash

MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Eduardo Año urged local government units (LGUs) on Wednesday to “be creative” in addressing the tons of garbage expected to be generated by thousands of cemetery and memorial park visitors on All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

He also reminded them to undertake the necessary security measures to thwart crime and to be prepared for any contingency.

In a statement, Año assured the public that all measures were in place nationwide for the the peaceful and safe observance of “Undas,” with LGUs and law enforcement agencies planning their moves weeks in advance. —Jeannette I. Andrade
