Power outages hit Panay, Guimaras

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines — Blackouts hit Panay and Guimaras islands on Tuesday and Wednesday, triggering outrage from consumers in the provinces of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo City.

Parts of Negros Island were also affected by low and fluctuating voltage.

The first blackout hit at 5:27 p.m. on Tuesday after coal plants operated by Global Business Power Corp. in Iloilo City and Palm Concepcion Power Corp. in Concepcion town, tripped.

Power was restored at 8:57 p.m.

At 8:26 a.m. on Wednesday, a blackout hit Panay and Guimaras islands due to a trip in the submarine cable connecting Panay and Negros Island. Power was restored at 10:11 a.m. —Nestor Burgos Jr.
