3 dead as bus abandoned by driver after mishap crashes into tricycle

SAN PEDRO CITY–Three people were killed in an accident involving a company shuttle bus in Carmona town in Cavite province, police said on Monday, Oct 28.

Carmona police chief Major Rommel Carcellar, in a phone interview, said Eutiquio Oliveros, a resident of Biñan City, Laguna, was driving the shuttle bus that ferried factory employees along Governor’s Drive in Carmona around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Police, however, have yet to locate him. They also refused to name the company Oliveros was affiliated with as investigation continued.

Quoting the bus passengers, police said the bus was already at the village of Maduya when it side swiped a pedestrian, later identified as Lily Villamor.

But instead of pulling over, Oliveros drove further until he jumped out of the shuttle bus.

Seeing the driver abandon the wheel, a passenger, Gemma Protacio, also jumped out of the moving vehicle.

Cancellar said he believed Protacio was driven by panic to jump out of the bus.

The driverless bus veered to the opposite lane of the road and hit an incoming truck. It stopped only when it crashed into a tricycle that was parked on the side of the road.

Police said Teresa Ancheta and her daughter, Trisha, 14, were onboard the tricycle. They both died on the scene.

Residents also brought Protacio to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Carmona but she, too, died later. Maricar Cinco/TSB
