MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday confirmed the third recorded case of polio in the country, this time a four-year-old girl from Datu Piang in Maguindanao.
“According to Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, the third confirmed case is a four-year-old female from Datu Piang in the Province of Maguindanao who did not receive any dose of the oral polio vaccine (OPV),” DOH said in a statement.
“The patient was initially reported as a case of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) last September 26, 2019, after seeking consultation at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center,” it added.
It was last September when DOH confirmed the resurgence of the deadly infectious disease in the country.

The first case was a three-year-old girl from Lanao del Sur while the second case was a five-year-old boy from Laguna.

DOH said it will conduct a vaccination campaign in Datu Piang, Maguindanao from November 4 to 8 to vaccinate 4,254 children aged 0 to 59 months. /kga
