Crime ring eyed in mayor’s slay
CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — Mayor David Navarro of Clarin town, Misamis Occidental, may have been killed by an organized crime group, the police said on Sunday.
Col. Gemma Vinluan, Cebu City police chief, said Navarro’s family said the mayor had been receiving threats based in Misamis Occidental before he was killed in Cebu on Oct. 25.
Vinluan said the family identified one which was notorious in Misamis and other neighboring provinces but she did not elaborate.
She said investigators had not discounted other angles, including illegal drugs, politics, business rivalry and personal grudge.
