CAAP: Students covered by airport terminal fee exemption during ‘Undas’

MANILA, Philippines — Students who will be traveling locally or abroad for All Saints’ Day or “Undas” are exempted from paying the airport terminal fee, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reminded Sunday.

CAAP Director General Jim Sydiongco said that those who are covered by the airport terminal fee exemption—including students from elementary to college levels, as well as those taking up vocational and technical courses—need to present their valid school identification cards or enrollment registration cards with photos.

The exemption, however, does not cover the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), and the Clark International Airport (CRK) which are governed by other airport authorities.

“May it be for a domestic or international flight, our students can avail of airport terminal fee exemption. This is CAAP’s way of supporting the ‘Malasakit’ initiative for our students,” Sydiongco said in a statement.

Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade, meanwhile, said that the exemption is the government’s way to support education and its importance.

“President Rodrigo Duterte was very clear: he wanted government agencies to support the pursuit of education,” Tugade said.

Many students are expected to return home to their families before November 1 for the All Saints’ Day, an annual holiday in the country. /je
