MANILA, Philippines — Tighter security measures will be implemented at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) terminals ahead of the expected passenger volume surge during the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day or “Undas” break on November 1 and 2.
“Mas stringent ang security protocol natin. ‘Yong mga binili natin na mga x-ray machines tapos yung explosives trace detectors, nandiyan na ho (We’re employing a more stringent security protocol. The x-ray machines we purchased as well as the explosives trace detectors have already been deployed),” Miaa General Manager Ed Monreal said after inspecting Naia terminals 1 and 2 on Friday.

Over 80 X-ray machines have already been installed in the Naia terminals, Monreal said.
The Office of Transport Security (OTS), Monreal added, donated 21 dual-view X-ray baggage scanners while Miaa purchased 62 units.

“Actually, there’s still some more coming because we just had it bidded out four months, five months. So, it’s coming in now so eventually before the end of this year lahat dapat yan bago na, puro dual view na yan lahat (Actually, there’s still some more coming because we just had it bidded out four months, five months. So, it’s coming in now so eventually before the end of this year all of our machines will be new and dual-view),” he added.
Forty-six explosives trace detectors have also been sent to the Naia terminals,Monreal said.
Monreal also said that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has committed to man all its heading into the peak travel season from October 28 until November 5. /gsg
