De Lima lauds UN’s call for accountability in drug war
Sen. Leila de Lima on Thursday marked United Nations Day by thanking the organization for its continued call for accountability from the Duterte administration amid the killings and abuses that result from the government’s war on drugs. In a statement, De Lima underscored the importance of the United Nations, whose charter came into force 74 years ago. The United Nations has also been consistent in providing aid to the country during disasters, such as the onslaught of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” and the Marawi siege, De Lima said. She was grateful as well that the United Nations has taken an interest in her detention, which she said was due to her “speaking truth to power in defense of human rights, the rule of law and democracy.” —Leila B.
