MANILA, Philippines—Hundreds of families were evacuated as flashfloods hit Valencia City in Bukidnon due to a heavy rains since Monday afternoon, a military spokesman said Tuesday.
Major Eugene Osias, 4th infantry Division spokesman, said that 336 families affected by flashfloods had been evacuated to Bantangan’s barangay (village) hall.
Three helicopters from the Philippine Air Force were sent to aid in the rescue operations, he said.
Troops from the 8th infantry Battalion and the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit under the 403rd brigade were sent to help in the rescue operation, he said.
Osias said that there were no reported casualties as of posting time.
Nine barangays were affected by the flashfloods, namely Maapag, Katumbalon, Pinatilan, Batangan, San Isidro, Lumbayao, Kahaponan, Poblacion and Sinabuagan. Purok Dos in Valencia City was washed out by the flashfloods, he said.
