SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna, Philippines — The government of Nasugbu in Batangas province on Tuesday sent a team of sanitary inspectors and health personnel to check a local hotel and resort after at least 65 guests, mostly college students, showed signs of possible food poisoning.
The victims were participants in a conference organized by the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants.
Alex Pimentel, leader of the inspection team, said the students stayed at the hotel and were served breakfast on Monday before they checked out.
He said they began complaining of stomachache as they were headed home.
Nasugbu Mayor Antonio Barcelon said the local government learned of the incident only on Tuesday noon as the students were taken to different hospitals outside their town.
