Parts of Davao del Norte town evacuated

TAGUM CITY, Philippines—Fifty families in Kapalong, Davao del Norte, were moved to safer ground Tuesday as the Libunganon River swelled, the provincial disaster risk reduction management council said.

Sonio Sanchez, the council’s head, said the evacuation was carried out to prevent loss of lives as the flooding,  triggered by hours of rains, has reached a depth of four feet in some places.

More people were expected to be moved to higher ground, he said.
