Drug detainee escapes from cops thru toilet window in Laguna

SAN PEDRO CITY –– Police on Tuesday continued its manhunt to recapture a detainee, who escaped from his guards through a toilet window in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

Lt. Col. Eugene Orate, Sta. Rosa City police chief, said Dennis Garcia, 33, who was under police custody for illegal drugs charges, was undergoing a medical check-up at the City Health Office around 3 p.m. Monday, when he told his guard, police Corporal Consino Peru, that he needed to use the restroom.

The check-up was part of the process of transferring a detainee from the police custodial facility to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

A police report said Garcia’s guards began to wonder what was taking him so long inside the restroom. When they checked, Garcia was nowhere to be found and was believed to have escaped through the toilet’s window.

The city police immediately launched a manhunt.

Peru was placed under custody for negligence, a violation of Article 224 of the Revised Penal Code.

According to the police report, Peru failed “to ascertain himself whether (the) said comfort room (was) safe and without any egress.” Maricar Cinco /lzb
