MANILA, Philippines — Aside from growing up with Down Syndrome, Princess Angel Diaz was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in 2015 when she was just aged 7.
“She attends a Special Education (SPED) program where she is at Level 6. That’s how they are classified in school. They are not following regular grade levels,” said her 46-year-old mother, Jovelyn Diaz.
The SPED school is in Antipolo City where Diaz, who is now aged 12, lives with her mother, father Jose, a construction worker, and two siblings.
After four years of chemotherapy at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Diaz will be watched by doctors for five years to make sure that she is truly cancer-free.
“I am asking for help from your readers because she undergoes a complete blood count test (P257) every month, a cytospin (P1,000) test every three months and a bone marrow test (P7,725) every six months. She also needs to take methotrexate (P2,466.75/monthly) and mercaptopurine (P1,418/monthly) every day for her complete healing,” Jovelyn said.
