Sotto sees unanimous approval of report on ‘ninja cops’

MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Vicente Sotto III thinks senators will unanimously approve the panel report on the findings and recommendations of the investigation of the so-called ninja cops.

“I think it will be unanimous. I read it. It is very accurate as far as the hearing is concerned. It is a very faithful reproduction of the hearing,” Sotto said in an interview with AM radio station DWIZ.

He had been asked if senators would approve the report of the Senate Committee on Justice on the alleged recycling by 13 Pampanga police officers of crystal meth, or shabu, seized in a November 2013 operation.

The committee report recommends the filing of complaints against former Philippine National Police chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde and 13 Pampanga police officers.

Sen. Richard Gordon, chair of the justice committee, showed the report to reporters on Friday.

Asked if Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, a batchmate of Albayalde at the Philippine Military Academy, will sign the report, Sotto said in Filipino: He will probably sign it.”
