MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau on Saturday said it is currently monitoring a shallow low pressure area (LPA) and tropical depression outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In a 4 p.m. weather live update, weather specialist Gener Quitlong said the shallow LPA is spotted at 1,835 kilometers (kms) east of Southern Luzon.
Quitlong noted that a tropical depression is last spotted at 3,235 kms east of Mindanao and is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
Meanwhile, the weather specialist said Severe Tropical Storm “Perla” might intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours before it leaves PAR.
Quitlong, however, said the weather disturbance could leave PAR by Sunday evening (October 20) or Monday morning (October 21).
“Perla” was last seen moving northwest 15 kph at 570 km east northeast of Basco, Batanes. It is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 100 kph and gusts up to 125 kph. /jpv
