MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday said it is leaving to due process the possible drug case to be filed against resigned PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde.
This was after a Senate panel has recommended filing of charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against Albayalde over the latter’s alleged involvement in the controversial 2013 drug bust in Mexico, Pampanga.
“The PNP will let justice, fairness, and due process of law take its course. All accused remain innocent until proven guilty,” PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said in a statement to reporters.
A Senate committee report said 13 Pampanga policemen, who were under Albayalde’s supervision as former chief of the Pampanga police, are accused of pilfering millions worth of shabu (crystal meth) which were seized in the Mexico bust. /muf
