CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—The provincial government has earned P121.4 million from taxes and fees on quarrying of sand and rocks from Mt. Pinatubo since July.
The amount is equivalent to a quarry revenue of P1 million daily that is attributed to a new collection scheme and high demand for quarry materials.
Gov. Dennis Pineda said the increased collections from quarrying were also due to taxing according to volumes hauled.
Dump trucks carry 18 to 20 cubic meters; 12-wheel trucks, 20 to 35 cu. m.; and trailers, 40 to 50 cu. m.
Dump trucks are charged P250 for sand tax, P150 for administrative fee and P30 for weighing scale fee for a total of P430. The 12-wheel trucks are taxed twice that amount while trailers are taxed thrice.
By law, the P250 sand tax is distributed to the villages, towns and province at a 40-30-30 percent sharing.
From July 2010 to June this year, sand and rock hauling had already brought in P2.8 billion to the coffers of Pampanga.
The provincial government earned an average of P25 million in the first six months of 2019, records showed. —TONETTE OREJAS
